The export from Evernote to Word was always clunky and left loads of artifacts in the text which needed manual cleanup, so finding a better solution would be a bonus. My main uses: Taking notes, and making lists. I need a powerful note-taking app that allows export for notes into common formats, like MS Word, or a email.

Zoho’s Notebook app (free) is quite good, but a little basic, and I wasn’t keen on the UX.

I finally cracked on the second request to uninstall then reboot my phone - I did uninstall Evernote but then instead spent the time digging into some alternatives. It threw up error messages saying I’d need to upgrade to sync with my new device - and the helpdesk couldn’t explain why sync was once again glacially slow. Apple’s transfer tech is now good at moving almost everything over to the new device - but Evernote wasn’t having it. OneNote’s shortcomings, and the apparent lack of credible alternatives to Evernote kept me jumping through the technical hoops a little longer.īut the final straw was changing iPhones last weekend. I also tried OneNote again, in the vain hope that it was going to be easier and more intuitive than before - but nope. In other words, Evernote left its old loyal customer base in the lurch in search of fresh revenue.Įvernote v10: The beginning of the end Evernote rolled out v10 of its iPhone app around a year ago. I’d always had Evernote go straight to my notes, so this was one extra hoop to jump through - and I decided to put up with it.īut as more and more new features rolled out, and were promoted to me through the app, I found that my paid subscription was worthless in terms of access to these new features. To my dismay, all the “cool” new features were out of bounds to Plus subscribers, including niggly things like changing the look and feel of the home screen. However, that’s where the trouble started. It’s no longer possible to buy a Plus sub but all existing customers had their status grandfathered over. Firstly I’m “only” a Plus subscriber: This used to be the entry-level paid subscription to Evernote, before the company introduced new paid models which cost a lot more. Free of Evernote at last: Here’s how (and why)Įver since Evernote upgraded to v10, it’s been a nightmare.
